Why VA for Veterans with SCI/D?

The mission of our System of Care is to support, promote, and maintain the health, independence, quality of life, and productivity of Veterans with SCI/D throughout their lives.

We provide lifelong care

We have comprehensive services for Veterans with SCI/D throughout their lifetime. In addition to services provided after an acute SCI, other lifelong services may include vocational rehabilitation, fertility services as well as long-term care planning with an SCI/D focus.

All VA’s are accredited by the Joint Commission. VA facilities providing rehabilitation are also accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF).

Preventive health – SCI/D Annual Evaluations

We provide comprehensive Annual Evaluations at our SCI/D Centers. This is a comprehensive evaluation performed by a health care team specializing in SCI/D.
The evaluation includes:
  • Comprehensive medical history and physical examination; including a thorough neurological exam.
  • Health maintenance and disease prevention (examples: vaccinations, blood pressure monitoring, blood glucose monitoring, lipid monitoring, etc.).
  • Assessments for functional changes and equipment needs
