After a new spinal cord injury, an early and important step is called acute rehabilitation. During this stage in your recovery, you will work with your multidisciplinary medical team to regain as much lost function as possible and adapt to the changes resulting from your injury.

You can transfer to VA at any time
If you are a Veteran with a spinal cord injury or disorder (SCI/D), it’s important to realize that you can transfer your care into VA at any time. Even if you’ve already completed acute rehabilitation at a non-VA facility, you can transfer your care to VA. We have a comprehensive program of rehabilitation and ongoing SCI/D care that may not have the same out-of-pocket expenses of regular health insurance.
